چکیده

In this paper we propose the language of 'state specif ications' to un i formly specify effect of act ions, executabi l i ty condit ion of actions, and dynamic and stat ic constraints. This language allow? us to be able to express effects of act ion and constraints w i th same first order representation but different in tu i t ive behavior to be specified differently. We then discuss how we can use state specifications to extend the act ion descript ion languages A and Lo.

Modular-E: an Elaboration Tolerant Approach to the Ramification and Qualification Problems

We describe Modular-E (ME), a specialized, model-theoretic logic for narrative reasoning about actions, able to represent non-deterministic domains involving concurrency, static laws (constraints) and indirect effects (ramifications). We give formal results which characterizeME ’s high degree of modularity and elaboration tolerance, and show how these properties help to separate out, and provid...

Reasoning about Actions: Non-deterministic Eeects, Constraints, and Qualiication

In this paper we propose the language of`state speciications' to uniformly specify eeect of actions , executability condition of actions, and dynamic and static constraints. This language allows us to be able to express eeects of action and constraints with same rst order representation but diierent intuitive behavior to be speciied diierently. We then discuss how we can use state speciications...

Tackling the Qualification Problem Using Fluent Dependency Constraints

In the area of formal reasoning about action and change, one of the fundamental representation problems is providing concise modular and incremental specifications of action types and world models, where instantiations of action types are invoked by agents such as mobile robots. Provided the preconditions to the action are true, their invocation results in changes to the world model concomitant...

Tackling the Qualification Problem using Fluent Dependency Constraints: Preliminary Report

The use of causal rules or fluent dependency constraints has proven to provide a versatile means of dealing with the ramification problem. In this paper we show how fluent dependency constraints together with the use of durational fluents can be used to deal with problems associated with action qualification. We provide both a weak and a strong form of qualification and demonstrate the approach...

Reasoning About Action II: The Qualification Problem

We present a computationally eeective approach to representing and reasoning about actions with many qualiications. The approach involves treating actions as qualiied not by speciic facts that may or may not hold when the action is executed, but instead as potentially qualiied by general constraints describing the domain being investigated. Speciically, we suggest that the result of the action ...
